Happy New Year!

Good Evening, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

New Year's Eve is fast approaching! Am sure most of us will be glad to see the 'back end' of this year! Here is to 2009; and may the upcoming year, be a much better one, all the way around to all! Skal!

My son was over earlier today, to help Alan with transporting and hooking up a T.V. in our bedroom. The T.V. we had, has seen 'better days'; and the replacement T.V. was from our wonderful tenant; who had to suddenly return to Europe to care for his aged parents. Thus he had no need of this fabulous T.V. with all its 'bells and whistles' and generously gave it to us as a 'gift'. The only thing that is missing, is the 'clicker'; whereby, Alan will locate the model / code number and order the remote control. Until then, we can happily manage manually; and be grateful for the much improved picture, as well as increased sound! A wonderful way of going into the New Year, methinks; and there are some classic movies showing later this evening! We will also enjoy watching the 'countdown' in New York Times Square! I always become 'sad', moments before the passing year; and as soon as we greet the new year, I am exhuberantly welcoming the 'change of the guard', if you will.

We have experienced all tids of weather! The forecast is for bits of snow, possibly later this pm. We three (Alan, Blue, and myself) are 'home for the night'; and we will savour a quiet New Year's Eve, with some 'appies' (specialty of Costco!) along with some chilled bubbly! A New Year's tidbit 'diet' / 'keep fit' will start 'sometime' next week. LOL! Have to admit, it is hard to resist all those Christmas and New Year's bittid goodies; they do have a bit way of accumulating, don't they! LOL! However, you live only once on this earth; so methinks, ENJOY!

This afternoon, I was outdoors 'chatting' with a few neighbours; and it is very comforting to know, that we are a closely knit community; thus a good feeling of 'belonging'. Our next door neighbours will be popping in over the next couple of days for a glass or two of vino and some tasty hors' d'oeuvres!

We are refreshingly looking forward to taking on the New Year with gusto! 'Blogging' of neighbours, our lovely neighbour that gave us the large red poinsetta that you see in the photo, is returning home tonight. Thankful, too, that my son showed me how to download digital pictures onto our computer; so now you can enjoy a few 'homemade batches'. LOL! We will 'attempt' to give our kind friend her beautiful plant that has given us so much joy! She did say to Alan that she wanted us to HAVE the beauteous plant; however, we know that she would appreciate a tid 'welcome home' touch of the Christmas / New Year's Season. She lives by herself; we sense that she has had a tougher time than most; so why not 'cheer her in' her with a freshly watered and vibrant poinsetta for her to enjoy, for however long!

As a tidbit treat, 'Mini Rice Crackers with Nuts' (again from Costco!) has an extra 'panache' or bittid 'oompf' when you add raisins! A very tidbitz tasty way of 'stretching' the 'snack!'

We also are grateful for the good bittidz visit we had, with my son; and Alan's homemade turkey soup really hit the spot! 'Thank God' for turkey; as it has so many exquisite uses!

We are back now from doing a bittidz of grocery shopping, as well as picking up some champagne, to joyfully 'Cheer In' the New Year! We (like most people) have had our share of difficulties, however, we are going to appreciate and rejoice in the celebration of 2009! You betcha your tidbitz! Thus, we will go out of 2008 well; and ring in the New Year with gleeful gladness!

Tidbit - Enjoy today; regardless of what is going on, or not going on around you. Best to be appreciative of both the good and the not so memorable moments of 2008 (life is a 'journey', right?); and YET, putting that behind you, choose to ring in 2009, with a hearty genuine GOOD CHEER TO ALL!

Bittid - This is also a time to truly reflect upon all our Blessings. As well as to discern what is 'genuine'. Concentrate on where the 'focus' will be in 2009. That 'focus' should ALWAYS be on Him! We are always looking to Him for Guidance, Understanding, and Grace. This allows us to best deal with 'situations' that arise.

Tonight, we will be toasting to "Absent Friends" (You can refer to my post of 'Skal to Absent Friends', December 24th); as well as 'Skaling' to 2009! Should mention, that both Alan and I were raised in 'European' households; so there are some extra special endearing customs, that we truly appreciate! Alan is of fiesty Scottish descent, and I am of Norwegian Viking blood.

Sadness in the Holy Land

Want to add a tidbit; that I was remiss in stating that all of the three religions in question - Muslim, Jew, and Christian at this time of year, should be embracing the teachings and tenets of the respective leaders of each Faith! Essentially, to LOVE and care for each other. And, I hope and Pray that there will be a lasting sincere PEACE established in the Holy Land in 2009.

As a bittid, I will Pray an Intercessary Prayer daily in this regard! Peace Be with you.

Tidbitz thoughts

Good Evening,

WHY don't the 'moderate leaders' of the Arab Nations, speak out in an united voice against the conduct of the Hamas and the Hezbollah, and allow Israel to be a sovereign State!

The Hamas are bent on 'destroying' Israel; and yet Israel is made to look as if they are the 'bad guys?' ie. When they have to defend themselves. (You can refer to today's earlier post about the bombs). Israel ceded Gaza in its entireity to the PLO in 2005, as a gesture of good Faith!

Lest we forget, Hamas and the legitimate Palestinian authority in the Westbank, have been at odds for a long time. It was this disunity that stimulated Hamas to occupy the Gaza Strip. Also, Hamas sends these rockets into Israel from launch pads located in civilian populated areas! They are hiding; and are directly causing by this action, civilian casualities - THEIR OWN PEOPLE! Since that time, they have repeatedly sent bombs and missiles (with the assistance of Syria, Iran, as well as the Hezbollah in Lebanon); and have squirreled away over 40,000 rockets aimed at Israel, to do so. Israel is simply protecting itself against aggressors, who have been on record repeatedly that they wish to extinguish the Israeli state.

Saudi Arabia did make overtures in the past, for all parties to acknowledge Israel's right to exist; and that all Arab parties to the agreement, must acknowledge that. The above have chosen to disregard this request. Until such time, that all Arab and Muslim states unilaterally agree to sign a formal agreement to this effect, Israel has the unequivocable right under International Law, to defend itself!

Am appreciative that Alan helped me write tonight's bittidz post, expressing our tidbitz thoughts; as I wanted to share them with you.

Tuesday morning elixir!

Good Morning, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

It is pouring with rain; and yet it is approx 37 F degrees; so who knows; perhaps it will be a tidbitz repeat of yesterday's weather; ie a mix of heavy rains, blizzard snow, hail, and high strong winds.

At the moment, I am enjoying a wonderful cup of coffee, brewed by Alan; love the smell of fresh coffee; and particularly this morning, it is greatly appreciated! As mentioned in yesterday's post, we had a bit of a 'flood'; and it looks as if the towels soaked in most of the water. Thank goodness too, that we have a dryer! Plus last night's cool temperatures and winds may have helped dry things out a tid.

Our complex has two entrances / exits; and we are very thankful for them; particularly during when we have been immersed in full fledged winter! There is still quite a bit of snow on the roofs etc; and more snow and winds are in the forecast for later today.

Most people are on 'holidays' until next Monday; however, we have some bittidz to attend to before the New Year. Alan is presently on the phone; and I am happily enjoying the blog, along with my 'elixir!' LOL!

Tidbit - Take a stand for the TRUTH; as "He IS the Way, the Truth, and the Light". Unfortunately, there are a lot of 'innocent' people, who are currently being 'caught up' by the false propaganda being spread by certain dissident groups throughout the entire world. Fear, confusion, and chaos appear to be the 'M.O.' and the TRUTH is being ignored or 'covered up'.

There is much discord going on in the world; and most of it, is all so unnecessary. Greed, power, money, out of hand....ie. The Israelis, in good Faith, GAVE the Gaza Strip to the Palestinians a few years ago. It was when the Hamas formed the government, they 'stirred up the pot', if you will. The Israelis asked repeatedly to the Hamas, to stop throwing bombs on Israel; and the Hamas did NOT listen and continued with their bomb throwing 'mission'. Why? We can guess the answer! Not a 'nice' one! Israel, on the other hand, in fairness, decided 'enough is enough'; and if drastic measures are necessary, so be it! The Israelis appear to have no need for the Gaza Strip; and the 'concessions' to be made, should be that the Hamas 'cease and desist' with their offensive actions - PRONTO! Why is that so difficult to comprehend?

Bittid - Rely on Him to Give you an Understanding and the Gift of Grace. When you genuinely accept Him into your heart, things become a lot more simple and clear! As Christ says: 'Love one another, as I have loved you'.

May write some more tidbits later. We have also been watching some bittids on the news. It is suggested that perhaps President Elect Obama may have a difficult choice re: the Israelis? Peace is definitely the diplomatic way to go; however, once again, the Hamas did not listen to the repeated requests by the Israelis. Perhaps, the 'hearts of the Hamas can now be touched'; thus, allowing 'cooler heads' to prevail! Hail Him, the Advocate of the Truth! Am going to Pray for the Hamas, so their 'hearts can be touched!' Appreciation for today - Peace, beauty, simplicity!

Good Morning, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

During the night, I thought I heard a bit of 'running waer'; and dismissed it, thinking perhaps, it is my tid imagination! Well? No, not quite! It is not a huge deal; however, it could be, if not handled asap. Our back patio had a few feet of snow, which Alan shovelled; however, water still managed to seep in under the patio doors and found ints way into our living room. The carpets are soaked! Thank goodness for towels; and a washer and dryer! The towels are being pressed into service; as is our dryer! Never a dull moment around here! Alan is cleaning up excess snow debris outside; because now with today's warmer temperatures, everything is melting and very rapidly. Thank goodness for Alan too! LOL!

A tidbit: This just came to mind. Let your mate or loved one know he or she are appreciated by you; and that they are 'special' to you. Alan and I do that almost, if not every day; and it is amazingly upbeat! A tid tidbit of a genuine compliment goes a long way!

It is still 'holiday mode' spirit until next Monday; inasmuch as New Year's Eve is this Wednesday. We have not given any thought as to how we are going to spend New Year's Eve. Methinks, we will stay put and appreciate our abode! Enjoy a nice home cooked meal of sorts, a glass or two of a 'bit of bubbly' to toast in the New Year. And, we will do a 'Skal to Absent Friends'. You can refer to my December 24th post, 'Skal to Absent Friends', if you wish a bit of background.

A bittid: This is a significant time for meaningful reflection, for true thanks, for generosity of spirit, genuine gratitude, and for avid appreciation for all our bountiful Blessings! I can not share this bit bittid enough!

A wonderful time to enjoy a bittidz of a peaceful pause; to be humble, and to live each day at a time, with Grace and Faith in Him. Live simply; choose to be happy, regardless of your circumstances. Awesome what transpires! Plus, have a tidbitz of compassion and empathy towards others; particularly to those who are downtrodden and less fortunate during these turbulent times. We have our own tid challenges as well; however, we are leaving it ALL up to Him to Provide our needs. When you cast all your burdens upon Him; you feel as if a huge weight has been lifted from your heart! Also, anticipate with a joyful thanks and a confident calm, that He will help you, through everything!

It is now pouring with rain. Alan is thinking that the 'flooding', is also from the melting snow falling from our roof. Too high and dangerous for him to climb; however, we will make the best of it, and just soak everything up, the best we can!

Hope you are enjoying and appreciating today! I LOVE the above pictures, I took earlier in the year, of our gorgeous granite stone fireplace, the white orchard (from Costco), the pink rose (from our garden), the Norwegian hand hammered beautiful silver vase, the large elegant bowl, the bevilled glass in the rich dark wood table etc. Your spirits feel good, doesn't they, when there is a genuine appreciation! Methinks we will light a 'friendly' fire; as this is a perfect day to get caught up on 'overdue' reading of 'Revelation Unveiled' by Tim LaHaye. Plan to 'soak up' the insightful knowledge 'like a sponge'; a lot is relevant to what is presently happening all over the world! Also, my enlightening experience with the White Dove or the majestic Seagull (You can refer to yesterday's post: 'Post Christmas Reflections - Peace' if you wish to read about the 'White Dove') may give you a sense of peace and some encouragement. Christ says: "Love one another, as I have loved you".

Post Christmas Reflections - Peace!

Good Evening, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

This morning, found me quite aghast, as per this morning's post. I apologize that I did not say 'Good Morning or the best greeting' to you; however, I was and still am dismayed! Am going to Pray daily for both Schullers; that may He 'touch their hearts' for a spirit of forgiveness, reconciliation, and a better understanding. At this point in world history, it is extremely unfortunate, that two eminent Christians are having this level of discord for all to see! Did not Paul exhort us, that if we have disagreements as Christians, to resolve the difficulty by sunset! Particularly more so than ever, given the current economic strife, political unrest, and religious challenges circulating the globe.

I did not miss watching 'Enjoying Everyday Life' by Joyce Meyer. She is excellent; and she provides such a great deal of inspiration and TRUTH. To do yourself the best tidbit service possible, 'check into' her website: www.joycemeyer.org for knowledge 'first hand'.

However, here are a few tidbits that I appreciated today! Basically, 'Grace' is a Gift from God; we receive 'Grace' through 'Faith'. As Joyce says, 'He does not give us 'Grace' ahead of time'; only at the moment when it is required. I liked what Joyce said about 'a Wink from God'. It is good to Pray for 'Grace' every morning; because you can not do a thing without Him. 'One needs to come into an Agreement with God'; ie Stating with Confidence and Conviction, 'I DECLARE that I have 'Favour' with God, as He is with me.' That is very powerful and you are 'changed' forever. 'He cares about everything about us; as He LOVES us unconditionally'. A good tidbitz too, you know when you have the 'Grace', when you are NOT frustrated or worried; because you have left everything calmly to Him to handle for you. 'God is NOT the Author of Frustration and Confusion'.

Then 'Living Truth'. Charles Price is outstanding as well. Here are a few bittids I am thankful for! You can refer to Matthew 6: 19-24; and in a nutshell, 'We are all drawn by some sense of vision and purpose'. It is just a matter of where your 'treasures' are going to be stored; as in temporarily or eternal. As the saying goes: 'You come into this world with nothing, and you leave with nothing', eg. You can refer to 1 Timothy 6-7. Best you have your 'treasures' stored in Heaven' because, 'where your 'treasure' is, your heart is'. Also, you can NOT serve two Masters.

While Charles was speaking, about life as an appreciative "mist" at times; I noticed quite the morning 'mist' outside our bedroom window. The 'mist' was becoming thicker and thicker; almost as if it might snow again. Then I noticed a bittidz of sun shining through this foggy 'mist'; which then immediately started to clear. A huge beautiful white bird (I kid you not!) flew down and sat upon our neighbour's heavily snow covered large rhododendrum, which looked like a giant 'cream puff'. The bird just 'sat there' calmly; then it turned its head and looked directly at me, and after a few tid moments, flew off. WOW! I LOVE White Doves; do not know if it actually was a White Dove; it may have been a majestic Seagull, as I did see a tid of grey on its legs. In fairness to yourself, you should take a bittid look at the Living Truth website: www.livingtruth.ca for a greater understanding of knowledge, that Charles imparts. Also in Mark 8:36, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"

Alan made soup from the leftover turkey bits; and it smelled delicious throughout our home! We enjoyed his savoury soup for dinner! If you wish, you can refer to my post of 'Turkey Soup is good for the soul', Jan 03/08.

Earlier in the day, Alan gave tids of turkey leftovers to some 'street people'. They were naturally appreciative; however, more so, because the food was FRESH! He says: 'Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you'. If you wish, you can refer to my post of December 23rd, 'Christmas Reflections'.

Hope this has been a bit of an uplift, and that some of you may wish to 'Seek Him' out; as He is our Best Advocate in everything! The above photo image is of a White Dove; the White Dove, being the symbol of PEACE!

Tidbit - Be thankful and appreciative for your Daily Blessings. 'Praise Him In ALL Things'.

Bittid - Have a genuine compassion and a humble empathy for others. Methinks, this particular Christmas has been an extra 'special' one; and has meant more, to many people around the world!

A bit of a sad Sunday start

It is with a bit of sadness (actually a lot) that I write this post today.

It is re: 'The Hour of Power'. I had a 'funny' feeling that 'something' was just not 'right' or computing in my heart. ie I had not seen Robert A. Schuller (Jr) on the Hour of Power, for several weeks. I thought, perhaps he is serving as a wonderful Missionary in an Outreach Program, or spending time with family, taking a well deserved vacation, or just taking a sebatical. Then I Googled 'The Crystal Cathedral'; and alas: "Robert H. Schuller fires son, Robert A.Schuller"...... OOOPS?.

I am really grateful for the Vision Channel; and for the last couple of years; I have been tuning into the Sunday T.V. broadcasts of 'Hour of Power' (with both Schullers), 'Enjoying Everyday Life' (Joyce Meyer), and 'Living Truth' (Charles Price).

I can appreciate that both Schullers have their own uniqueness as two differently created human beings; and their own style of sharing the message. That is only natural! As a recent Christian (thanks to Alan, who witnessed to me in 2002, when we met); I have since then, been uplifted by both Schullers. Robert H. Schuller (Snr) provides positive encouragement and also welcomes many wonderful guests, to share their story; and how they genuinely accepted Jesus Christ into their hearts. I think that is great; very credible witnesses, endorsing Him! Robert A, Schuller (Jr) was also upbeat; and I felt that he became 'better and better' with each teaching of the message! In fact, I looked forward to hearing the younger Pastor share his teachings as well. He referred to the Bible! Whether you like it or not, the Bible does NOT lie. It IS TRUTH of then, now, and in things to come; and the Bible IS relevant for each and every day! Many wonderful wonderful stories!

From the bottom of my heart, I Pray that both Schullers work it out between them; and that FORGIVENESS (a message they both encourage) happens; thus a Reconciliation! I would like to see Robert A. Schuller 're -instated' in the Crystal Cathedral for many reasons; however, perhaps God has chosen another purpose for him. ie "When one door closes, another door opens".

I was not able to enjoy 'Hour of Power' in its entireity today; in fact, I chose not to watch it!. All I can say is that I wish both men well; and yet something is 'missing' now from the Crystal Cathedral, methinks. Both men have their strengths; and each have their own appeal. Nevertheless, I would like to see Pastor Robert A. Schuller continue with whatever it is that God has placed before him; and I would like to keep abreast of his 'Walk in Christ'.

P.S. Our Blue in the Grass

Greetings again!

Thought I would post this picture of Blue; so that it is easier for you, to see the similarities, as per the earlier photo image of 'Mr. Similar'! Eventhough, the above photo was taken in the summer of 2006, our Blue has retained his youthful and exhuberant appearance! LOL!

Blue Heelers

Cheers or Skal! Am now drinking ice water; however, will certainly savour a glass of South African red wine with dinner! LOL! It is now dusk; it may even start to SNOW in a bit! We are thankful that we are not going out this evening! Instead, Alan, Blue, and myself, will enjoy some leftover turkey and watch a couple of movies!

Earlier, when we had a bittid of lunch, we ended up watching a tidbit movie, 'Arthur and the Invisibles'. It was a cute story, and well animated, with special computer affects. The dog on the show, is a 'Blue Heeler'; and looks exactly like our Blue, who is also a Blue Heeler! Same colouring, same coarse hair, long tail, and the same type of inquisitive personality. Unfortunately I was not successful in my 'Google Search' for the actual dog from the movie; however, as you can see, I did locate another Blue Heeler photo image, that somewhat resembles our Blue.

Our Blue is the dog with the stick (picture taken this summer); and the other photo image is of 'Mr. Similar', alertly sitting in the grass. Our Blue is a cross between an Australian Blue Heeler (an Australian cattle dog / herder) and an Australian Shepherd. You can see a 'smidgeon' of 'shepherd' in him; however, to the immediate eye, he is 98.6% Blue Heeler! Very athletic, alert and highly intelligent, and playful antics; a dear dog who gives us bundles of joy!

Wanted to share some 'Blue Heeler' tidbits. For those that are 'Blue Heeler' fans, no doubt, you can appreciate their wonderful and loyal breed! Must say, Blue Heelers can wear a kerchief or scarf well! Our Blue looks awesome with his blue bandana! Those of you, who have household 'pets', am sure too, that you can never tire of telling tid tales and / or showing bittids of your loved 'family' members. LOL!

A 'sage' Saturday

Good Afternoon, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

The weekend again; Saturday! With all the Christmas festivities, it is easy to lose track of the days, don't you think?

The temperatures are currently 38 degrees F; and although we are appreciative for warmer weather, we are on alert for massive flooding and mountain avalanches. Alan at the moment, is shovelling the snow from our patio, into our side bittid garden; so that the melted snow, doen not seep in into our house! Last thing anyone needs!

Earlier, on the weather channel, there was a chap sharing tidbitz on how to properly shovel, thus taking care not to injure your back, arms, etc. in the process. Basically, use your legs; not your upper part of your body / torso; and do not extend your arms straight out either, when shovelling; keep them closer into your body; less stress on the muscles. Also, pick up less snow per 'shovelful'; particularly if the snow is melting, inasmuch as the damp snow will be heavier to lift.

Alan attempted to help some neighbours out of their garage this morning; as they were literally 'stuck'. He had just returned from being out, on the roads with our 'Four Wheel Drive', with new winter snow tires; and saw them in their plight. It turns out these neighbours, whom we do not know, do NOT have snow tires; yet all the while, they kept stating they 'have a front wheel drive'. They were / are blaming our Strata for not ploughing the roadways enough; the culprit here, is them, having NO SNOW TIRES! Our Strata, on the other hand, have been working diligently during these blustery blizzards these past tidbit days. You can perhaps compare snow ploughing / shovelling to raking up leaves; only to discover the next day, there is MORE MORE MORE of the same! Alan strongly counselled them to 'Stay home'; in a bittidz "STAY OFF THE ROADS", until the roads are in better shape. Do not know whether he made an enemy or a friend here; all I can say is, I hope these people heeded his sage advice! Alan, fortunately, knows how to drive in the snow; however, only goes out, when he has to. I hope too, that later, we do not receive 'freezing rain'; it depends where one lifts - the elevation etc.

Tidbit - "You can take a horse to water, but you can't make it drink", is a very appropro expression.

Bittid - Thank goodness for shovels! As a tid of useful trivia, my Dad shared a bit of advice with me: ie "When driving in snow conditions, always carry a shovel with you, in the car." There was many a time, that indeed, the shovel came in very handy! Thank you Dad!

Here is wishing you a nice R & R Saturday; and 'Drive Safe', if you need to go out on the roads. We are going to enjoy staying home this weekend, and appreciating our Blessings. I also look forward tomorrow to watching the Vision Channel (Have referred to 'Hour of Power' - Dr. Robert Schuller; Enjoying Everyday Life' - Joyce Meyer; and 'Living Truth' - Charles Price, in earlier posts if you wish to have a bit of reference / background).

Today is Boxing Day. Boxing Day apparently was started in Great Britain; and the 'Aristocrats' would give a box of toys, food, whatever to their employees and / or servants, as a 'thank you' for their service throughout the year. Also, coal was considered a gift as well; so that one would always be warm in the coming year; and this would indicate prosperity. If ashes were given, it was quite the reverse!

It is snowing again, in full regalia! Total swirling blizzard like winter conditions here; and we are thankful to be home. It is very cold as well; we are fortunate we can enjoy a few fires!

We have a beautiful painting by Ted Harrison and the sky colours of the 'Northern Lights' in the Yukon painting, are of oranges and pinks. Along with hues of blues and turquoises, which majestically represent the surrounding mountains and water. Perhaps some of you, have had the incredible experience of seeing the Northern Lights? (or Borealis). The artist and his little dog (generally his trademark) are looking out upon these breathtaking colours! Last night, throughout most of the night, the sky had an orange / pinkish blush; almost as if right over our house. The remnants of an awesome Christmas Day celebration, methinks!

The above photo, taken at Pasley this past summer, reminds me of the 'Northern Lights'. Apart from seeing the Northern Lights, as reflected in our painting, I saw them many years ago in Alberta; and those colours were purples, blues, and light greens. Phenomenal!

We enjoyed seeing my son yesterday afternoon and evening; it was such a nice visit. The dinner (you can refer to the most recent posts; ie yesterday, if you wish a bit of bittidz) was delicious; and better yet, we have lots of tidbitz leftovers! Mmmmmm! When my son was here, he 'downloaded' photos from our digital camera and also from our cell phone! An appreciative 'thank you' to him! We also found two tid batteries for the camera; so I will be able to take some tidbit pictures of the snow, as well as our 'Charlie Brown' Christmas tree, that I made mention of in my bittid post, 'An R & R Sunday', of November 30th. It feels like a Sunday today! LOL!

Tidbit - Reflect upon the Blessings in your life; and may each day be like a 'Thanksgiving' to you. Also, to daily 'Praise Him In ALL Things!'

Bittid - Appreciate and uplift others; be it by a warm smile, a gentle word of praise, or a random act of kindness. In the classic Charles Dickens book / movie, 'A Christmas Carol', 'Scrooge' became a 'changed' man, when he received a few 'wake up' calls or nightly visits from the Spirits of Past, Present, and Future. Because Ebenezer Scrooge had 'changed', he gave and brought joy and comfort to all those around him; particularly those in need. Methinks it is a meaningful movie to see again and again!

Merry Christmas!

The wonderful day has finally arrived! All the many tidbitz preparations for one day! However, it is the most important day of the year; as it is the Celebration of Jesus Christ's Birth! This year we are more thankful than ever! Methinks, with the Global financial crisis & credit crunch, people are placing more meaningful value on God, family and friends, than on material things and the purchasing of several expensive gifts. Gifts are naturally appreciated; however, when one gives 'from the heart', particularly when 'times are tough', ie home made gifts, inexpensive gifts, home made goodies, etc; that is just as lovely! However, the greatest Gift of all, is the Gift of Grace from Him and of Everlasting Life, when you accept Him into your heart.

We will be cooking our 13 pound turkey in the next short while; at a temperature of 325 F degrees, so that it can baste in all its glory for approx 5 hours! Mmmmmm. The delicious smell too, will permeate throughout our home! Alan does a very tasty Scottish Oatmeal Stuffing as well as whipping up a savoury mashed potato dish; and I will provide the rest - ie. gravy, and brussel sprouts, etc. The cranberry sauce is already made; nothing like home made cranberry sauce! We will enjoy tid leftovers, ie turkey and cranberry sauce sandwiches! As per an earlier bit post of Dec 15th, my son loves roasted almonds; so a large jarful is awaiting him!

We will also do a very special 'Skal to Absent Friends'- a Norwegian custom, to toast those that have either passed away; or those living, but not able to be physically present. One generally never says who they are 'drinking to'; however, I will be honouring my parents; Alan's Mum, as well as my son's Grandmother. His Grandmother, my ex-mother-in-law, was a lovely woman; and we were good friends.

'Absent Friends' can be a 'Skal' or a toast to anyone! ie Soldiers too, who have either given of their lives for our country, or perservering in the fight for our freedom! Whomever, comes to your heart! 'Absent Friends' provides a bit of comfort and 'grit'. Perhaps those who are unable to be with their loved ones for this Christmas, may receive encouragement from a Skal of 'Absent Friends'. I will also be remembering Alan's Dad; who currently resides in an Old Age Home. Alas, it would appear that he has been 'brainwashed' by Alan's siblings; as per their 'words, actions, and deeds'. Nonetheless, Merry Christmas to them, 'Absent Friends', and May God touch their hearts. (You can refer to earlier posts if you wish some bittid background).

We watched a couple of movies last night. One of them, was 'Christmas Eve'; and it is a most heartwarming tale of a family that is finally reunited at Christmas. Loretta Young,(her first appearance since 23 years - good on her! We like her!) who was the grandmother, was the one who brought back genuine harmony to the family. I recommend the movie as a 'tidbit'; as it may give you a bittidz uplift and help work out any family strife or discord.

Skal to Absent Friends

Good Afternoon!

Our day has gone by quite quickly! We have just returned from going on a nice long walk with our Blue! He just LOVES the snow! We have at least 3 feet of snow; and the large thick snowflakes are so gorgeous! Did you know, that no snowflake is the same? A bit of trivia for you.

On our inspirational walk, I noticed the beautiful stone walls around everyone's tid gardens, in the complex where we live. The stones are in stark artistic contrast to the volcanic blanket of snow! Also, a large branch was in the roadway; Alan moved it; and I picked up a few tidbit pine cones, which are now drying out on our kitchen table. Our digital camera needs a battery; so no pictures today; just in our minds instead.

We also met one of our neighbours; and she gave us a bit update about her husband's ill health. Alas, things do not look bright for him; so we will Pray for 'David'; with the hope he will recover. He has a very important appointment in two weeks; so more will be determined at that stage. She knows now, that she can easily call upon us, should they require any help, or in case of any emergencies. Alan is great at driving in the snow; plus our car is a 4 wheel drive; and is exceptionally good in snow. However, in these very delicate winter conditions, I leave all driving to him!

Tidbit - There are NO coincidences! We were glad we ran into our neighbour; and she at least now has been given a bittid of encouragement and enlightenment. Once again, He says: "It is better to Give, than to Receive"; and we felt quite uplifted for the 'encounter' as well!

Bittid - Joyfully appreciate your health and all your Blessings! This is the time to calmly reflect and be genuinely grateful! It is like celebrating 'Thanksgiving' all over again! We live each and every day as if were a 'Thanksgiving'; and always remembering to 'Praise Him In ALL Things'; regardless of one's circumstances! Perhaps, some of you, can relate!

Am about to go and make the delicious cranberry sauce; and tomorrow Alan will make his infamous Scottish Oatmeal Stuffing, and voila - we will savour a wonderful turkey dinner, with all the trimmings! Home Made gravy, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, etc. Mmmmm. Am starving already! LOL! Also polished our (from my Mum and Dad) antique silver dinner utensils today; and do they ever shine; so 'my parents' will be there with us, in spirit! Our table is now festively set (for three); and we are looking forward to spending Christmas with my son. Fortunately, he lives approx five minutes away; and Alan can always pick him up, if that is his wish.

We will also do a very special 'Skal to Absent Friends'- a Norwegian custom, to toast those that have either passed away; or those living, but not able to be physically present. 'White Christmas' Blessings

Good Morning, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

Woke up to a blanket of MORE MORE MORE snow this am! We have closer to 3 feet of snowy winter wonderland now! The snow is coming down fast and furious; 'blizzard' like, and the forecast is like this for the next few tid days. It will, indeed, be a 'White Christmas!' Am going to see if our almost full to capacity digital camera can take on another photo or two; and then when my son comes over tomorrow for Christmas Dinner, I will seek his assistance to load all the photos on to our computer. Then I can post some 'real' pictures! I appreciate the photo images; and once again, I thank my good friend, Cathy, for having given me the tidbit on how to access photo images to the posts.

Alan was out earlier on a walk with our 4 year young 'pup', Blue; our Australian Blue Heeler. He also has a tid touch of Australian sheep dog in him; and he looks very much like the dogs in the ads on T.V. We think he is better looking; but then, we have a bit of a leaning towards him! LOL! He wears a blue bandana, which matches his blue eyes; however, during the Christmas Season, he will be wearing a red scarf! He LOVES the snow; happily frolicking about here, there, and everywhere; and it is refreshing and fun to watch his athleticism and amusing antics! The above picture is of Blue, taken 2 years ago at our Christmas Party. Thanks again, Trish, for taking the photo!

My cup of coffee is definitely hitting the spot this morning; a grateful thank you to Alan for making it and bringing it to me. As mentioned in earlier bittid posts, we enjoy a wonderful view from our bedroom bay window; and it is a Blessing to see how beautiful all the trees etc look, when they are covered with snow.

Alan has just returned from going out to do the remaining bittidz; as we sense the snow will not be letting up anytime soon; as per the major weather forecast. There is a severe 'snow warning' / 'road advisory'; so best to drive now, rather than later in the day. Glad we do not have to drive anywhere far, within the next few days!

We are 'set' for whomever wishes to pop by or drop in for a tidbitz of good Christmas cheer over the Season! We are doing our Christmas Dinner tomorrow night; and it will be an extra 'special' occasion! We have my son coming over for turkey and all the tidbit trimmings; whereas, my daughter and her husband are hosting their Christmas Dinner tonight for his family (16?). We will be going to my daughter's for 'Christmas' dinner on the 28th; easier for us all to go to them; primarily because of the ages of the twins. My daughter's in-laws are preparing the main course in their own home; and then taking the food over for tonight's gathering. We have offered to do a bittid 'potluck' as well, for the 28th; and 'keeping things simple' works best!

Tidbit - Appreciate your pets too. Treat them well, and they generously reward you in kind!

Bittid - Can appreciate during these tough and challenging moments, it may be a bittidz more difficult to genuinely enjoy the 'Spirit of Christmas'. However, there are always those who are far less fortunate! If you choose to be upbeat and positive, you will be a 'happier' person; not only to yourself, but to all others around you. Lest we forget, as Christ says, 'To give is better than to receive'. He GAVE us Everlasting Life (He dearly paid the price); and we are genuinely Thankful for His Gift and for all of our Blessings. Hope this is of encouragement to all those who read my posts. Yesterday's post summed up a bit of tidbitz.

Hope and Understanding

Good Evening,

Just a quick bittid! Now it is dusk; and you can 'sense' that 'snow is in the air!'

The Christmas outside lights really light up a warm and welcome path to our front door! We are Blessed to have wonderful 'neighbours!'. One of our neighbours, is very 'handy', and often offers sage tidbit advice to us. He is like a 'Dad'. Fortunately, he kindly helped Alan with a tid electrical difficulty, experienced when putting up our lights. Now the complete string of lights are shining in abundance! We are using 'energy saving' bulbs; same as our neighbour!

My parents and Alan's Mum have passed away; and Alan's Dad is placed in an 'Old Age Nursing Home'. We have not seen him for some time; would like to; however, if you were to refer to my earlier posts, of many blogs ago, you will gain some bit background. Long story made short, it has been made very difficult for Alan to see his Dad; unless under very strict, supervisory visits. We feel that this is not appropriate or right; however, we know why it has been 'engineered' in that way. 'Shame on them' for their smugness and malicious behaviour they have exhibited towards Alan. They KNOW what they have plotted and done! The good thing is, that at the end of the day, 'they' will receive their come-up-pence! ie. 'They' may be able to fool some; but God is NEVER fooled. Nevertheless, I genuinely wish them all a very Merry Christmas; along with a Prayer, that may their hearts soften towards Alan. May God touch their hearts, so that they have a Spirit of Forgiveness, and of Reconciliation. Alan is the youngest of 4 siblings; and 'they' have always been 'jealous' etc of Alan. (The Biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colours comes vividly to my mind).

In short, we really do not have a 'conventional' family. Yes, I have been Blessed with two 'children'; however, that is it, in a bittidz nutshell. Guess what I am saying is, that I wish our parents were still alive, and celebrating Christmas with us. Fortunately, we have many good memories to cherish. I made mention in today's earlier post, "Better late, than never". If you have a family member or a good friend that genuinely matters to you, let them know that you love and care about them; and that they are very 'special' to you; while they are still alive.

Methinks this Christmas is going to be an extra 'meaningful' one to us. We have our tidbitz challenges (who doesn't; particularly during these turbulent times); however, we have 'cast all our burdens' upon Him - quite literally. We are living each day, one day at a time; and keeping things SIMPLE. We constantly give appreciative thanks for all our Blessings; and particularly in the comfort of each night, we are grateful that we made it through the day - all with His Help! We are continuing to have FAITH, JOY, CONFIDENCE, and a CALM in Him, KNOWING that He will Provide Solution. We do not know how; save that we Believe that He will! We must not Rely EVER on our own understanding; instead we must TRUST Him TOTALLY to Guide us, and to give us an Understanding and Seek His Words of Wisdom. That is how we live our lives - daily; and how we are going to really appreciate a 'special' Christmas this year. Also, we will be reflecting much upon 'Good Tidings and Great Joy'. Pray this gives you a spark of hope! I love the above photo image of 'Seek and Ye Shall Find'.

Christmas Reflections

Good Afternoon, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

We are really in full winter here; and much more snow / blizzard weather is expected later this afternoon, and over the next few bittid days. This morning, the skies were clear; beautiful hues of turqoise blue! Now there are threatening dark clouds (black almost), and brilliant sunshine, which are in breathtaking contrast to the heavily snow laden branches of all the surrounding trees. It would make a wonderful wintery photo, methinks!

We were out earlier today to tidy up tidbit 'loose ends'; and now we are 'ready' for family and friends, some of whom may 'drop in' over the Christmas Season. We also had to go to the Liquor Store today; and ran into some good friends, who were also in the process of 'stocking up' of Christmas 'supplies'.

We are going to enjoy this Christmas all the more; its special meaning (Christ's Birth), and 'keeping things simple'. As mentioned in yesterday's post, we were given a beautiful HUGE red poinsetta plant; and it is happily located in a 'perfect' spot in our living room! 'Out of the way', and yet highly visible, protected both from cold drafts, as well as any heat from the fire. We also added some more firelogs to our inviting hearth; some of which are '2 Hour' logs; which are handy to have on hand.

Christmas can be a very sad and lonely time for many people; and we saw many on our travels today. And the ones (ie street people) 'on the street', who appear to have far less, looked for the most part, much happier than well coiffed and perhaps more fortunate people. Strange you would think; but perhaps not. We have a few older friends that may have been 'isolated'; so we have invited them in for some 'Christmas cheer' over the holidays. It is as if their families / friends have forgotten all about them; hard to fathom, but true. To boot, they are 'genuine' folk; and they deserve kindness and empathy.

Tidbit - He says" Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you".

Bittid - Be appreciative of your Blessings; and 'Praise Him In ALL Things'. Amazing how you become uplifted, which in turn, uplifts others.

Alan is putting up a few bittidz Christmas lights outside our front door; and there always is an extra special tidbitz, seeing colourful Christmas lights aglowing in the snow! Eventhough, we are a tid behind this year with our outdoor lights; we are appreciative of them finally being up! As the expression goes: "Better late, than never". That bit saying, also makes me think of remembering those, who are in need of a gentle pat on the back, and / or a kind and caring word.

Poinsettias

Hi again!

Am going to share with you a bittid about Poinsettias; and a big 'Thank You' to 'Flowers Growing' (a blog/website). Would like to share some of their helpful information about the tidbit care of these festive Christmas plants; as some of you may appreciate the knowledge as well!

Poinsettias

"This flower is one of the most used present in Christmas Eve.
The length of time your poinsettia will give you pleasure in your home is dependent on the maturity of the plant, when you buy it, and how you treat the plant. With care, poinsettias should retain their beauty for weeks and some varieties will stay attractive for months. But you have to now first that is a beautifull flower for not a long time.
After you have made your poinsettia selection, make sure it is wrapped properly because exposure to low temperatures even for a few minutes can damage the bracts and leaves. The leafs are very fragile.
Unwrap your poinsettia carefully and place in indirect light. Six hours of light daily is ideal. Keep the plant from touching cold windows.
Keep poinsettias away from warm or cold drafts from radiators, air registers or open doors and windows.
Ideally poinsettias require daytime temperatures of 60 to 70°F and night time temperatures around 55°F. High temperatures will shorten the plant’s life. Move the plant to a cooler room at night, if possible.
Check the soil daily. Be sure to punch holes in foil so water can drain into a saucer. Water when soil is dry. Allow water to drain into the saucer and discard excess water. Wilted plants will tend to drop bracts sooner.
Fertilize the poinsettia if you keep it past the holiday season. Apply a houseplant fertilizer once a month. Do not fertilize when it is in bloom.
Getting poinsettias to reflower is not easy, but with some patience and care it can be done.
Late Winter - Early Spring
Cut back each of the old flowering stems to 4 to 6 inches in height. Do this in February or early March. This will promote new growth.
Late Spring - Summer
Repot into a 2-3 inches in diameter larger pot. Make sure the soil mass is moistened and place in a sunny window. When all danger of frost has passed and night temperature are above 60°F the plant can be placed outdoors. Place the poinsettia in a shady location for two to three weeks to allow it to become acclimated to the new environment. Then sink the pot in a sunny protected outdoor flower bed. Light shade during the afternoon is okay.
Turn the poinsettia pot regularly to prevent rooting through the bottom hole. It is suggested that a quarter turn each week will prevent this and will also help to keep the plant growth even all around the pot. If the pot is not turned, one side may get more sun than the other.
If you prefer a short plant with many flowers, pinch out the growing shoots to encourage branching. Pinching should produce more flowers and a nice bushy plant. This should be done at 3 to 4 week intervals, according to the speed of growth. Pinch out the top 1/4 inch by hand. Two or three large fully expanded leaves should be left below the pinch; this serves as a guide for knowing when the shoots are ready for pinching. Continue this practice until mid- August, when the plant should have a satisfactory shape and number of shoots.
Keep the plant growing actively all summer by regular watering and feeding every two weeks with a complete soluble fertilizer (20-20-20).
Fall
Before night temperatures fall below 55-60°F at night, bring the poinsettia indoors to a sunny location. Check for pests and diseases and place poinsettia in a south window.
Flowering is “photoperiodically” induced in the poinsettia. This means that flowers begin to form when the days are a certain length, or, more accurately, when the nights are long enough. The poinsettia is a short-day or long-night plant. Without long nights, this plant will continue to produce leaves and will grow but will never flower. You must make certain it receives no light from any source.
Very short periods of lighting at night may be enough to prevent or interfere with flowering. Even light from a street light can stop flowering. If the plant is to be grown in a room that is lighted nightly, cover it completely at dusk (5p.m.) every day with a heavy paper bag, a piece of opaque black cloth, other light-tight cover or place in a dark closet.
Flower initiation begins in late September and early October. Dark periods longer than 12 hours are necessary for flower set. Flowers mature in from 60 to 85 days depending on varieties, temperature and light intensity.
Because flower initiation depends upon the length of the dark period, your poinsettia must be kept completely dark from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. The time to give this treatment is from the end of September until December 15.
Once you can see the flowers developing in the growing plants, i. e., when the floral bracts start to show definite color, it is not as important to continue giving the dark period, though it is advisable to continue until the bracts are almost fully expanded.
Temperatures should be no less than 55°F at night, but not more than 70°F. During the day give the poinsettia as much sunlight as possible.
Reduce the amount of fertilizer given after bringing the plant indoors. Growth is slower in the lower light intensity inside the house.
High night temperatures, coupled with low-light intensity, low nutrition, dry soil or improper photoperiod may delay maturity."

Personally, I LOVE poinsettias! They are always so 'special!'. Normally, we enjoy a handful of them; however, this year we prudently bought only one - a tiny tid red poinsetta; and it looks great in a bit brass pot in front of our cosy fireplace. When we light a fire, we move the fragile plant to a more protected bittidz location!

In the meantime, our elderly neighbour who is going away for Christmas, has given us her HUGE poinsetta plant to care for; and WOW (and a THANK YOU!) is all I can say! It is in a gorgeous pot; and that in itself is a decorative Christmas touch! Managed to clear a tidbitz spot for this gigantic and majestic red plant; and her kind gesture, has totally made my day! At the same time, she has not been able to get through to the airport via phone or online to check her flying status. As mentioned in today's earlier post, we have a lot of snow! Plus, she has not been able to get a taxi! Alan just took her now to the airport; and all being well, she will be united with her family later this evening, for the Christmas season.

Tidbit - Do random acts of kindness; even if it is just giving a smile, is so uplifting to others! The expression", 'what goes around, comes around' is certainly true!

Bittid - Be genuinely grateful for ALL your Blessings. Today, we have received a few unexpected Blessings; and I am joyfully 'Praising Him In ALL Things.'

Also, in my December 15th post, I mentioned 'snow scenes' as gifts, that we gave to our twin grandsons. The correct word for a 'snow scene' is a 'snow globe'. That is what our city looks like today; like a beautiful Christmas 'snow globe!'

Good Afternoon, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

I feel as if it has been a while since my last post (Dec 18th). It is that time of year for many to be on the go; and we have also been experiencing a few tid 'computer' challenges. December 19th was the Funeral Service for our 92 year old friend. The Memorial Service was very enlightening; and the reception that followed, in the Church hall was, indeed, a comforting one. The food (mini sandwiches & pastries) were enjoyed by all; there is something 'special' about food, when it is delicious! A few cups of tea; hit the spot as well! After the reception a bittid of us were invited back to the home of our good friends; where we all appreciated a few stiff drinks as well as the 'leftovers' from the reception.

Apart from our friend's passing, the main topic of tidbit conversation, was about the economy and the repercussions felt throughout the entire world. The 'gathering' was extremely meaningful; largely due to everyone being affected by the global financial crisis; thus everyone was a bit more 'real' or genuine. No facades, no fake dialogue etc. As one chap suggested about the banks: 'If one has the money, one does not go to the banks to borrow money; and 'those' in that grouping, are the ones that the bank will lend money to". I thought that was exceedingly well put. In short, no one is being loaned any money!

The Bank of Canada is suggesting that the banks are 'hoarding' the money, as they are wanting to bolster their bottom lines at the expense of all of us, from having reasonable access to credit. Hence, precipitating a potential recession with deflationary possibilities. In other words, they are the problem, not us. A member of our family has impeccable credit; he was turned down by a bank to help him in his business of many years. So, who knows? All I can say, is that we are going to enjoy this Christmas; and be appreciative of all our Blessings! 'Praise Him In ALL Things!'

Last night was the night of our friends' Christmas party; and it was one of the nicest parties we have been to, in a long time. Everyone was more 'down to earth'; and because of our friend's recent passing, we 'bonded' all the more with one another. No one was fearful of being 'vulnerable' or 'themselves' - it was most refreshing! We came home well after midnight and the expected 'snow blizzard' was already well on its way. Glad we did not have too far to drive! Canada is forecasted to have a 'White Christmas' throughout the country; which is most unusual. Neat, methinks; and once again, with the credit crisis and its overall domino effect, people are more thankful than ever! Somehow, we will get through these turbulent times.

This morning, I watched the Vision Channel; and as I have mentioned in previous posts, best to 'tune' into these wonderful International Bible Teachers, so that you can receive their messages first hand. On 'Hour of Power', with Dr. Robert Schuller, he was sharing that God is real; and that He always has a Purpose for us. Have to confess, that I slept in for a bittidz; so I only was able to hear the last few minutes of his program. Joyce Meyer in 'Enjoying Everyday Life', was excellent again; and she had a wonderful guest, Dr. Gary Smalley, who is a speaker / author on relationships and 'pushing buttons' (www.garysmalley.com - there are some free 'tests' you might like to try out). Basically, do not try to 'change' someone else; it is 'you' that needs to 'change'. When you accept Him into your heart genuinely, you 'change', and you look at things differently; ie. resolving issues, which includes also dealing with various 'buttons being pushed'. Very invaluable information!

On 'Living Truth', with Charles Price, he was sharing that Jesus is our Saviour and that our 'sins' are forgiven by Him, if we genuinely accept Him into our hearts. You can refer to John 1; 11:13. When you Admit your need, and Believe in Him (that He sacrificed His Life for you), and you Commit to 'changing' (to be more like Him), His 'Holy Spirit' lives within you for evermore. You are no longer 'empty' or 'dead'; because you have been given 'new life' or a new appetite to live a more meaningful life. The Bible takes on a new meaning, when you invite Him into your heart.

We also watched the 'Antiques Roadshow' and there was a bold sign that read, 'Everything has a Beauty; not everyone sees it'. That is a very true tidbitz!

Here is wishing you all a Merry Christmas! We are choosing to have one; and in a tidbit, to make it one of the best bittid Christmases yet! Not in a material way; but in a totally Thankful way! His Birth is of great Joy to us, and we are appreciative of His special Gifts to us all! My apologies for not writing yesterday; our computer had a 'siesta'; however, am glad now, that it is up and running happily again!

Right now we have approximately 15 to 18 inches of snow; very pretty and still thickly falling. How appropriate for the first day of winter; and yet, I felt like utilizing the above photo image! Perhaps it brings a smile to your face!

Heartwarming movies at Christmas

Good Morning, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

This am is cold; 20 degrees F. A 'blizzard' is in the forecast; however, for the tid moment, am enjoying the calmness and serenity of a wintery chilly morning. - Along with a large cup of freshly brewed coffee.

Last night, we watched a wonderful movie, 'The Man Who Saved Christmas'; and it was based on a true story during the First World War. You may wish to see it, if you have not already. Basically, a successful toy shop maker (Mr. Gilbert) was asked by 'his country', to turn his creative toy making abilities / inventions into mass production of weapons and defense armaments. This change was suggested by Washington, U.S.A. and Mr. Gilbert (the toy maker) had no choice but to oblige - 'for his country'. 'War Posters' and other P.R. propaganda were being promoted for the troops abroad, instead of delightful toys for children. Weapons flourished; but no smiles. As time passed, Mr. Gilbert was again approached by Washington, to sell 'bonds' and to 'cancel' Christmas; as the 'financing' of the war was more important than celebrating Christmas. This did not sit well with Mr. Gilbert (as well as many others). Besides, he had received a ton of letters from children begging him for toys! 'Coles Notes': Mr. Gilbert and his family went to Washington, along with his latest toy creations (his young son was quite the inventor as well!) and he was able to influence President Roosevelt and the government to permit him to return to his love of making toys! He was saying too, that HOPE would be destroyed even more, if the country gave up Christmas! He also continued with the making of more weapons until the end of the war; as well as turning his lovely big home into a toy factory. Once again, smiles and toys for children at Christmas!

We have a number of telephone calls to make; however, I just wanted to share this heartwarming story with you. We have been invited tonight to a festive Christmas gathering with close friends; we would love to go. Yet, we may have to give it a pass, due to the dangerous icy road conditions; and the drive is a good 45 minutes.

We also have a funeral of a close older longtime friend, to attend tomorrow afternoon. Her Memorial Service and reception following, are both at the Church; so it is not too far from where we live; and 'if push comes to shove', we can walk the distance. Although with Alan's problematic knee, driving would be better and far quicker; and we can travel (skate a tidbitz?) along the main roads. The same family are having their annual Christmas Party the next night; and if you wish, you can refer to my posts of Dec 11th and 14th for a bittidz of background.

Tidbit - Choose to enjoy a time of CALM; and as He says: FEAR NOT.

Bittid - Let us be Thankful for our Blessings; as there are many people around the world, who have far less, or nothing at all.

A Genuine Good Night

Good Evening, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

Today has been a bittid day of 'challenges'; and am glad it is now evening. It is full winter here! The forecast looks as if we may have a 'White Christmas'.

During these tough times, I believe more people are looking to being more 'genuine'; and that 'material' items are not as meaningful, in the total scheme of tidbit things.

Today, we have experienced some people who are totally 'genuine'; and others who appear to be 'greedy', and only concerned with their own tid self 'image'; ie 'What would others think?' Methinks, with the current state of the global financial market, 'pride' should be tossed out the window; and that a compassionate 'heart' should prevail! Very dismaying to see the avid and avarice preoccupation for 'appearances sake'; having no apparent concern for the plight of others. UNLESS, the selfish bit thought may be: 'What is in it for me?' (Greed comes strongly to mind). 'It is hard for a leopard to change its spots' as the expression goes, may apply here.

We are 'working' towards 'fruition'; eventhough various bittidz 'setbacks' still abound. However, at the same time, we believe we will make it through these challenging times; and we are totally grateful for all our Blessings of each and every day.

Earlier this evening, we watched Trevor Linden, an ex Canuck hockey player, being honoured for his wonderful career, as well as his #16 Jersey being retired forever. He is such a gracious and humble man; and methinks, he is an excellent role model / mentor for many. He is one who has made a powerful impact and a positive difference in the world!

On that note, am going to say 'Good Night'; as it has been a rather long and hectic day; with a lot of unexpected tidbitz 'curves' thrown our way. However, that is okay; we are grateful for a good night's rest. Love the above photo image; that is us tonight!

Tidbit - Keep on trekking in your FAITH in Him; BELIEVE that He will Provide Solution.

Christmas Cheer! Skal!

Good Evening, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

Am glad it is nightfall; will be seeing our bed early tonight. Methinks with the days becoming darker earlier, along with this cold Arctic air mass, the instinct is to just stay put indoors; as if in a 'snug as a bug' cocoon.

Enjoyed a really nice tid lunch / visit with my daughter, the twins, and their tenacious pug / bulldog, 'Pedro' today. It is refreshing to see how active 2 little boys can be; into everything, non-stop! However, they are listening more, learning how to speak and pronounce words; so they are molding into quite the unique personalities. I am thankful too, that they are not identical! LOL! The little guys loved the mugs and the 'snow scenes' (you can refer to yesterday's bit post if you wish); and methinks the book, 'Woman to Woman', by Joyce Meyer, will be a tremendous resource of inspiration to her. The bubble bath will be a welcomed treat as well, am sure! She gave me a beautiful turquoise sarong from Hawaii; when she, her husband, and boys were there a month ago for a week's vacation. Seems so long ago!

Alan stayed home and 'manned the fort'; if you will; still no news. However, we are going to remain positive and have the FAITH, that He will Provide Solution.

Tidbit - Make a genuine effort to 'nurture' and 'solidify' better relationships with family members; particularly during these challenging times. Also, have empathy and compassion for all those you meet - daily.

Bittid - Pray to Him for 'Understanding', Guidance, and His Words of Wisdom, each and every day. Also, 'Praise Him In ALL Things', regardless of your situation! If you ask Him to carry your burdens, He does - always. He never gives you more than you can handle; and do your best, to 'have a calm' and 'keep things simple.'

We are going to savour heated up hors'd'oeuvres, with a glass or two of chilled white wine. May sound like a strange repas combination; however, Alan and I are on 'the same page' for dinner tonight. Warmed up sausage bittid rolls from Costco, soon to be enjoyed! They smell delicious! Mmmmm. Yum! Just hit me, even baking or taking a box of Costco frozen goodies, can be a useful and appreciated gift tidbit!

Am going to appreciate the same photo image as in yesterday's post; as the picture looks so 'Christmassy', and full of wonderful warmth!

Some inexpensive, yet thoughtful Christmas Gifts!

We are 'waiting' for good news; so we are hopeful to hear either tonight or tomorrow. Very tough times, is all I can say. However, I LIKE what Dr. Robert Schuller always says that "Tough times never last, but tough people do". That is a tidbit of 'oompfy' encouragement; and also where the 'Leap of FAITH' is key! We ARE leaving it ALL to Him to Provide the Solutions.

Meanwhile, some other Christmas 'gift! thoughts' ex. For many years, I have enjoyed two neat large Christmas 'comfy' mugs; and this year, we are giving them to my daughter's twin boys. Eventhough, the twins are only 2 years old; I know the 'bear' and the 'snowman' will be a welcome delight to ALL those who drink from them! We have appreciated these cheery mugs solely as decorations; however, it is now time to happily pass them on from our household to their household! (Also, we do not need too many decorations; particularly, if someone else can appreciate them). A couple of lovely 'snow scenes' immersed in water; have forgotten what 'they' are called; but when you turn 'them' upside down, snowflakes fall! Quite awesome!

Also, an inspiring book for my daughter - 'Woman to Woman' by Joyce Meyer ('Enjoying Everyday Life'); an insightful book of encouragement; and methinks for her as a young Mum, who is constantly 'run off her feet', this book will provide her with some wonderful tidbits of wisdom. I have the book as well; (and have read it!) and the bittids are excellent'(www.joycemeyer.org, if you wish to check into her website). Plus, the 'almonds' I made up earlier, are in a funky Christmas papered container; reminds me, when I was a child, I paper covered my school books (like everyone else); same idea here! Also, some refreshing bubble bath for young Mum.

Tonight, we are dealing with extreme 'deep freeze' temperatures and nasty wind chills. It is unseasonably cold here. Alan and I have 2 warm winter jackets that we do not wear often; (better someone else can benefit from them!) so we gave these away to some 'street people', earlier in the evening. We had an extra sleeping bag that was appreciated as well! Alan also gave away some Christian 'tracts' to this group of 5 or 6 people; and save for one person, they were thankful to receive them and for the encouragement. Alan's comment to the person who responded 'negatively' to the 'tract'; was: 'You are the one, who needs this the most'. Perhaps the others will gently 'witness' to him. Have also been reading 'Revelations Unveiled', by Tim LaHaye; and if you read it, you will find the truth, relative to what is currently happening around the world.

Off the topic; yet, a comparison nonetheless, with today's 'global financial crisis'. A man called Madoff, engineered for years (by himself, so he says?) a 'Pyramid Scheme' involving $50 Billion in fraud from various influencial investors. My heart goes out to those who lost 'billions' etc; or even in the case of one couple, who lost their million dollars worth of hard earned savings. He had worked in carpet sales, saved a million dollars, finally was able to start enjoying their 'golden years' of retirement; only to discover, that within 48 hours, their fortune was entirely wiped out! We may have our problems (who doesn't?); however, I have empathy towards all those who are innocent victims of such an unfathomable and unthinkable fraud! Methinks, "Where will Madoff's final resting address be?"

Tidbit - There is always someone who is in a far worse and dire situation than yourself. When you 'give' (with a 'generosity of spirit') to others; particularly to those in need, you feel so much better, don't you?

Bittid - Turn misfortune / adversity into success / creativity! - ie. Christmas gifts etc. Spend time with those you love; and let them know they are 'special'.

Almonds as gifts for Christmas Cheer!

Good Afternoon, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

It is a gorgeous day! Very cold; below zero weather; but with clear blue skies! The forecast is for this Arctic air mass to continue for the next few days; along with more snow.

Am not going to my daughter's today; tomorrow is better for us both. So, I am looking forward to spending some quality time with her and her little ones.

Was up very early, and was able to get a number of things done, well before 9:00 am; including a bittid of baking! Plus, enjoyed the warmth of a cosy fire!

For some Christmas cheer, here is an almond recipe, which may be nice Christmas gifts; be it, as a 'hostess gift'; and / or family and friends. My son, LOVES these almonds; and it is neat to see that such a simple bittidz thing, can bring him so much pleasure! I think we all need to do more of 'creative giving' (from the heart); particularly during these tougher and leaner times.

The tidbitz recipe fortunately, is very straightforward! LOL! Almonds (blanched whole works best; however I have used whole almonds) - put in oil and cook in pre heated frying pan. Then transfer (with a slotted spoon) the somewhat browned almonds to a foil lined pan, to a pre heated 350 to 400 degrees oven to 'dry' off the oil. 400 degrees is probably preferable; it depends how you 'crispy' you feel. I also sprinkle a tid of seasoning salt over the nuts while they 'brown' more evenly. Then when they are done to your satisfaction, let them stand at room temperature. I also use a bit of paper towel to 'dab' off any excess oil. You can put the paper towel over the almonds for even a better soaking up of oil. Then if you have a nice tidbit jar or container, decorate with Christmas wrap; and you are set!

Reflections on a wintery Sunday

Good Afternoon, or whatever is the best greeting to you, in your part of the world!

First of all, my apologies for not writing a post yesterday. We had a lot 'on our plates'; and by the time evening fell, we were only too happy to fall into our cosy bed.

Yesterday was a full tid day; and when I was having a quiet time with Him in Prayer, I was 'given the thought' to go to the drugstore and select some Christmas candies! Well, we did that; and we were like 'children' again, picking out our favourite candies! We love 'Licorice Allsorts'; and there was a Christmas Special "2 for 1"; so we joyfully invested our pennies in those treats!

Plus, we ran into our dear friends (one of them is the son of the dear old friend, who had just passed away; as mentioned in my Dec 11th post). We were thankful to 'visit' with them; and all our spirits were uplifted a bit. Plus, we saw a few other friends; who are also very special to us! I let them all know that they made our day! I noticed most others who walked by us, were beaming at us! Methinks, a genuine smile, a gentle word, a kind action, is infectious! You should try it sometime, if you have not already done so! You may be amazed by the warmth and enthusiasm both given and received; it is like a 'party!'

We woke up to snow this morning; and once again, it is a breathtaking 'winter wonderland!' Also, enjoyed watching the 3 programs on the T.V. Vision Channel; and here are a few tidbits.

'Hour of Power' with Dr. Robert Schuller. Unfortunately, I missed the first 15 minutes of the 60 minute program; however, the remaining 45 minutes, was enlightening to me! Bill Hybels, Pastor of Willow Creek in Chicago, was back again as a guest; and his message again, was awesome! (You can refer to my post of December 7th, if wish some bittids!) He shares his story re: 'the Power of a Whisper'; and also refers to: "My sheep hear My voice, and they Heed it" (John's 10). Best thing I can suggest for you (who wish to) to hear his invaluable teaching; as it may be a solace of comfort to you, during these times and for always, is to tune into: www.hourofpower.org. Reminds me of my 'thought' (perhaps a 'whisper'), that I experienced yesterday, when I was in quiet Prayer with Him in a quiet spot. From what I heard today, I genuinely believe it was - a 'Whisper!' Also, as per my post of Dec 11th, re giving away some clothing to those less fortunate, methinks is also a 'Whisper!'

'Enjoying Everyday Life' with Joyce Meyer. I just love her; she is great; right on the mark! Her message: 'Stop blaming others, for our problems' is a major piece of solid and insightful advice! Also, to get 'really good at Forgiveness'. ie. She illustrates her teachings with the example of the Story of the 'Prodigal Son' - Luke 15, v 11-32 (one of my favourite stories from the Bible!). Joyce also briefly touches upon the comparable story of Joseph; that also is very dear to my heart. Joyce shares 6 signs of 'Unforgiveness'. Here they are. 1) 'always keeps score'; 2)'always boasts of own record - self righteousness'; 3)'always complains'; 4)'alienates, divides, and separates'; 5)'accuses, exposes'; and 6)'angry when someone is Blessed'. In a bittid, 'FORGIVE and come into the party'.

Interestingly enough, the special experience I had (You can refer to my post of 'Amazing Grace', Dec 12th for a bittidz background), about 'being lost and then found' is a strong validation; as well as Joyce's encouraging message today. ie The Story of the Prodigal Son, who was 'lost and then found'. Once again, her website is: www.joycemeyer.org. As well as 'Do Yourself a Favor and Forgive', plus other wonderful resources, there is also, a new book -'Knocked down, but not out'.

'Living Truth' with Charles Price. Charles shares his illuminating message re: 'Fasting and Self Denial'. As a tidbit, I heartily recommend, you check into his website - www.livingtruth.ca; as you will gain a first hand knowledge and a better understanding of his in depth teachings. In a tidbitz, 'Fasting' is where you 'get into that secret place with God'. Charles gives many wonderful Biblical examples; best again, if you read the stories for yourselves. Being 'genuine' and 'not for show', is best.

This week is going to be a 'provocative' one; however, we are going to be joyful and confident that He will Provide Solution. Planning to see my daughter tomorrow. Best always - is to 'Praise Him In ALL Things'; to keep a courageous calm and a genuine focus on Him; more so than ever.
